4. Giving an agent hands

MCP (Model Context Protocol)

An open standard for connecting AI to tools and data sources — one shared plug shape, so any AI app can use any MCP-compatible connector (Gmail, Slack, databases, calendars) without custom wiring for each pair.

Why it matters: MCP is why an agent can suddenly reach your actual systems. Each connected server also grants real power and consumes context window — connect what the task needs, not everything you have.
