4. Giving an agent hands

Agentic

The adjective for anything built around an agent — an AI that works towards a goal on its own, taking one step after another, rather than answering a single question and stopping. An "agentic workflow" is one where the AI goes off and does several things in a row without being asked each time.

Why it matters: mostly a signpost word, and increasingly a sales one. When a supplier says "agentic," ask the two questions the word is hiding: what can it actually do without a person clicking approve, and what happens when one of those steps goes wrong?
