The act of the model actually running — producing an answer. Distinct from training (building the model in the first place). You pay for inference every single time; training happened once, long ago, at the AI company.
Why it matters: "inference costs" is what shows up on your bill. When people say "EU inference," they mean the model runs on European servers — a compliance question, not a technical one.
